Review & Description

This book describes my reasons for visiting Mukhtar Mai (who had been gang raped on orders from her tribal elders in central Pakistan), her schools, her village and to see for myself how she manages the outpouring of good will of the world in bringing formal education to the girls of that region. Although my research around this woman of humble means was deep, as deep as was available to me, I felt it important to also go the distance at some time and expense, to see the life she lives and observe the benefits she is bringing to the children. I wanted to see these things first hand, to share a few hours in her village and in her school and home, and to meet this awe inspiring woman for myself. The result of my efforts gave evidence of her commitment to education, her devotion to Allah and Pakistan, and to her strength as a person the world will never forget.
This book is also about the help I received from two members of Lions Clubs International whose contributions made my visit with Mukhtar Mai possible. Had I not had the personal assistance of Lions Governors Agha Abdullah Pathan of Karachi and Afzal Sipra of Multan, I would not have left Sacramento.
